Tehran is willing to restart atomic discussions with Washington provided that it is approached with "respect" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has stated.

Abbas Araghchi said exclusively dialogue was effective, and disclosed new appeals had come from go-betweens to resume discussions with the Trump administration. He asserted Iran possessed no secret atomic facilities, and Iran had not yet reached a point to allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to inspect struck enrichment centers for protective measures.

Walking a Difficult Route

Araghchi is treading a complex route since Iran wishes not to appear to be acting from a position of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more resilient defensively and mentally from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was talking at a strategic meeting in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the main reason of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.

Earlier Discussions Abruptly Concluded

The earlier sessions of talks between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and bitter end on 12 June when Israel, with US support, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a two-week conflict that concluded with the US president declaring the facilities had been eliminated. Subsequently, EU nations employed their privilege to restore international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a major impact.

Ideal Resolution Suggested

Tehran representatives stated they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could process nuclear material.
