Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
